Student athletes and their families, coaches, teachers, and school leaders gathered at the performing arts center at Johnson High School last night for the 2023 HCSD Torch Awards. The Hall County Schools Athletic Department recognized the male and female Senior Athletes of the Year from each of its seven high schools. Torch Award recipients are selected by their school for exemplifying “Character, Courage, and the Passion to Compete.”
Additionally, the district honored its Coaches of the Year from each of its middle and high schools. The keynote speaker for the evening was former player, coach, principal, and now Assistant Superintendent for the HCSD, Dr. Brad Brown.
The stories of character, perseverance, grit, and sportsmanship were inspiring. With these young people transitioning from high school into the next phase of their lives–be it college, tech school, or the workforce–we can rest assured that there is still good in the world and hope for a better tomorrow.
